After the whirlwind of Christmas, we packed up the crew and headed south for a family road trip to Clearwater, Florida—chasing sunshine, laughter, and the kind of family time you just can’t schedule. You have to go make it.

A Clearwater Family Vacation with Everyone (Almost)

We took all but one (Dylan, Mackenzie, Maddox) of the kids on this after Christmas family vacation, and it was a full house in the best possible way.

Alex (son), Sarah (daughter-in-law), and little Brylee Ann (granddaughter);Cheyenne (daughter) and Todd (son-in-law);Zack (son) and Ashlyn (his fiancée);Savannah (daughter) and Brock (her boyfriend);and Andrew and Braden (both sons).

Controlled chaos. Full hearts.

This is what multigenerational family travel looks like—and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Slowing Down in Clearwater, Florida

Clearwater delivered exactly what our family needed—warm air, palm trees, and a pace that lets you breathe again. Days blurred together in that perfect vacation way, where naps happen wherever they happen (sometimes right on Pop Pop’s shoulder), and no one’s checking the clock.

Traveling with grandchildren has a way of reminding you what really matters.

A Disney Day We’ll Never Forget

One of the biggest highlights of our Clearwater family trip was Savannah and Brock absolutely spoiling the entire group with a day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Watching the kids—and let’s be honest, the adults too—take it all in was something special. From the animals to the atmosphere, it was one of those days you wish you could bottle up and pull off a shelf later.

Things to Do in Clearwater with Family: PopStroke

Another day, we found our competitive sides at PopStroke, one of our favorite things to do in Clearwater with family.

A little friendly putt-putt competition never hurt anyone… unless you’re keeping score. Laughs, trash talk, and a few miracle shots turned into memories we’ll be retelling for years.

A Local Favorite: Hogan’s Hangout

Somewhere in the middle of it all, we ended up at one of mine and Grammy’s favorite Clearwater spots—Hogan’s Hangout.

Cold drinks, good food, loud conversations, and that unmistakable feeling of being exactly where you’re supposed to be. It’s places like this that make family trips feel rooted, not rushed.

The Quiet Moments Matter Most

But the real magic of this Clearwater family vacation was in the quiet moments.

A sleeping grandbaby after a long day.Everyone piled into a living room—kids on the floor, adults catching up, phones down, stories flowing.

Those moments don’t make headlines…but they make a family.

Why We Keep Taking These Trips

Trips like this remind us why we load up cars, juggle schedules, and chase time together. Because one day, these photos will be the stories—and these stories will be the legacy.
