Some Days You Just Need a Sunset

Legendary
Legendary

Some days it’s just hard to shut my brain down. Tonight, standing by the water with a line in the gulf, I caught myself thinking back to when I used to be a pretty good fisherman. Truth be told, I might even call myself legendary—at least if I was telling the story. I had a knack for spinning a tale about the one that got away big enough to make you wonder if you should call the record books.

But years go by, life happens, and like any other skill, fishing slips away when you don’t use it. These days, it’s not so much about what I catch. Tonight was more about watching the sun melt into the horizon, losing a couple of baits along the way, and enjoying an evening with my wife. Honestly, I think that’s a better win than any trophy fish.

Looking back, it’s easy to see how the things we love—fishing, golf, motorcycles, whatever it may be—end up on the back burner while we take care of the people we love and all the “other” commitments life throws our way. Maybe I’m finally starting to figure out that it’s okay to slow down. To enjoy the sunsets. To throw out a line without caring if something bites. To go for the motorcycle ride just because. And maybe one day, I’ll even talk Tonya into giving golf a try.

One thing I know for sure: the Gulf of America puts on the best sunsets. This one’s a keeper. The exact spot? Well… a legend never reveals all his secrets.

The adventures continue…
