This weekend we stayed at John’s Pass Hotel, and it was exactly what we needed. While Kentucky was dealing with a snowpocalypse, we were soaking up sunshine, salt air, and that laid-back Gulf Coast pace that instantly slows life down.

Everything about John’s Pass just works. You’re steps from the beach, food, drinks, and the pier, but nothing feels rushed. It’s the kind of place where you wander without a plan and end up exactly where you’re supposed to be.

One morning we took Grammy for a sunrise walk on the beach. The sand was cool, the waves were quiet, and the sky put on one of those shows that makes you stop and appreciate the moment. No crowds. No noise. Just a peaceful start to the day.

The rest of the weekend was spent doing what the beach does best—letting the sun work on you until time doesn’t matter anymore. Long hours by the water, warm air, and that good kind of tired that only comes from being outside all day.

Along the way, we found a beautiful shell tucked into the shoreline. It was alive, so after a quick moment of admiration, it went right back into the Gulf where it belongs. Some things are meant to be appreciated and returned—memories are what we take with us.

And then there was Winston. He absolutely loved the laid-back bar life on the pier and the nonstop attention from everyone who walked by. At one point, we were pretty sure he was about to get Shanghai’d at the bar and recruited onto the pirate ship crew. Belly rubs, laughs, and photos—he soaked up every second of it.

John’s Pass is dog-friendly, easygoing, and welcoming, and Winston fit right in. Walkable beaches, food and drinks just steps away, and an old-Florida charm that doesn’t try too hard—it’s all there.

While Kentucky was buried in snow, we were watching the sun sparkle on the Gulf and listening to the waves roll in. No contest.

Some weekends are about plans. This one was about being present—and it was perfect.

Until the next adventure,

Love,

🌴 Grammy & Pop Pop 🌴
